  i was thinking the other night (my head is still hurtingcould you imagine having the power to stop it and choosing not to?

  i kept thinking, if i could die so that no other innocent person should have to suffer, then i would.

  Thanks for all the thoughts. This is an issue I've been struggling with for a while. Not just the belief in Jehovah, Yahweh, the christian god...but just in any god, any higher being, any creator. I've given up on believing that the bible god is real and that the bible is inerrant, due to the research I've done on the bible, the histories of various religions and their similarities to the bible stories etc. Right now, it's just a matter of trying to figure out whether I believe that there is any being who created us. If so, what's his or her problem? Doesn't this creature care about us? Apparently not.

  Since he has the power to resurrect those children in a better setting, it wasn't necessary to intervene at this time.

  SOJ, what about the present? What’s the point of even living? Why don’t we just go ahead and get it all over with if we’re just going to be resurrected to a better life anyway? So what if they can be resurrected (and that's a big IF and cannot be proven)...what about the pain, the very real pain they suffer now? It’s not like everyone gets to choose to go out quick. Some people hurt for decades, suffering from a broad range of ailments. Some people die a slow death due to insufficient food and/or water. Some children suffer at the hands of their own parents, being beaten, raped, and tortured until they either grow up to finally leave the situation, tell someone and try to get help (hopefully not an elder), or unfortunately die at the hands of their perpetrator. The fact that they get to be resurrected (which mind you some of them will not be according to various bible teachings) is supposed to make it all okay? This concept lends little comfort to the pain that one has to suffer in THIS life. Thanks for your input…

  An imperfect man possesses more compassion than that. Lowly humans make sacrifices so as to prevent suffering or aid other people when possible, yet an Almighty God who is supposed to be the very example we are emulating does nothing?

  I'm speaking mainly of Jehovah....the bible god. I am not informed enough to make any kind of judgements about the gods of other religions. And I'm not atheist. I still like to believe there is some entity out there somewhere who cares about mankind. But...I just don't know. When I see little children have to suffer such horrific acts, I wonder what kind of "god", be it the Christian god or just any old god, sit back and let things like this happen? If it is in our creator's power to stop things like this from happening, then why doesn't he/she?

  Anybody ever try the Atkins Diet?

  ok, this has probably been discussed before, but, how many here have tried the atkins diet?

  did you have a good/bad experience with this diet.

  the reason i ask is because i went to my doctor and my bp is way up.

  When I was on the low-fat, all I did was watch my fat intake (30 g or less) which is, IMHO, a lot easier than counting calories. Most veggies/fruits have 0 fat; most bread, pasta, tomato sauces usually have 1-3 g; soda's have 0. It's really easy to keep up with, maybe because the number is so low. Although you have to bypass things like butter and oil, I just opted to bake most of my food rather than frying and use low-fat butter, Molly Mcbutter, and natural seasonings such as herbs and spices on things like pasta and potatoes...which is healthier anyway. The diet I was on was the Cory Everson diet, and the plan was to eat every three hours. I ate and ate and ate. The idea is to keep your energy level up (food is energy!) and keep your metabolism going. The plan is also to exercise at least 6 days a week - and I'm not sure if this is the same diet that Francois is talking about, as there were many different ones circulating when low-fat diets were "the" fad - but I exercised anywhere from 4-7 days, depending on how I felt. But I tried to get in at least 4 days. I usually just walked or rode my stationary bike. It really was the easiest diet I ever tried. And I was very pleased with the results.

  I was thinking the other night (my head is still hurting), this was right after I heard the news of Deanna Laney (tyler, texas) killing her two sons and attempting to kill the third...and I was wondering if Jehovah is real, did he watch it happen? I mean, he sees all, right? Well, what does he do? Does he just sit there, knowing what is about to happen and chooses to do nothing to prevent it? When I read about those kids, I cried. Those poor babies...I cried because could you imagine watching the one person in the world whom you trust to protect you coming down on your head with a rock and beating the very life out of you? Could you imagine how horrific those murders must have been? Could you imagine having the power to stop it and choosing not to? I kept thinking, if I could die so that no other innocent person should have to suffer, then I would. Most people would, I think.

  Then I began thinking about the typical Christian response to these kinds of situations. Free will. We all have free will...yada, yada. But good god, shouldn't free will have some sort of limitations? I mean, if I were God, I would be like: fine, do whatever you want as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. Once I saw that someone was about to step over that line, zap. And I'm not going on about the pain of everyday life, i.e. the arguments, relationships, the let downs, the scratches from falls, not these little things. These things are bearable. These things you can deal with and go on with your life. I'm talking about gore, absolute suffering, mental/physical torment, things I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. The utterly cruel things that people do to one another...the things that are just as much a part of life as slamming your finger in the car door.

  I most certainly could not sit back and allow - just for the sake of free will, proving my universal sovereignity, or whatever the reason - my children to suffer excruitiating deaths where they sometimes slowly starve and thirst to death just because of greedy governments, are sometimes mutilated, molested, raped, or tortured because of some pervert's "free will", or sometimes wither at the hands of cancer or some other disease that eat up their insides at a dreadfully slow and agonizing pace just because death is inevitable (and there's another issue altogether), but hey, I'm God...couldn't I make it just a little less painful? Just have a tiny bit of mercy and allow them a quick death? Instead, would I just sit there in my loftiness and see my children die these deaths that sometimes take hours, days, months, years and not bother to do a thing about it? Aye, to prove to Satan that they will love and serve me no matter what! Is this sick, or is it just me?

  What kind of parent would do that?

  I tried the atkins diet about a year ago. I lost about 20lbs in a month. But I couldn't take it. I still get sick to my stomach when I see a bag of pork skins. I love cheese, eggs, meat, broccoli (which is pretty much all I ate)...but I craved sandwiches, spaghetti, coke, coffee. I was quickly fed up with the likes of splenda and diet rite and decaf . I do believe that much of what has been said on here about the healthiness of this diet is true. You have to wonder about a diet that encourages the intake of fatty foods and denies vegetables and fruits. The whole goal with this diet is to send your body into ketosis which is an abnormal increase of ketone bodies in the blood as in diabetes mellitus. Atkins works if you want to lose the weight, but I do believe it to be unhealthy.

  Francois was right. Out of all the diets I have ever been on (and I've been on many) the low-fat diet was the best!! If for no other reason than it allows you some variety. You can eat as much and as many vegetables you want. There is now an abundance of low fat foods on the market like chips (like wow brand and baked varieties), cookies, and ice cream to choose from, not to mention all the fruit you can eat. You can have bread, pasta, sugar...actually the only thing you really need to steer clear of are things like butter (which I used low-fat butter or something like molly mcbutter), oils, and fatty meats. I ate lean meats (chicken, turkey) and became addicted to turkey bacon. You can still drink normal caffeinated, sugary, creamy (powder, of course) coffee. You can drink tea and coke and...why did I ever go off of this diet? Like Frank said, you keep the intake below 30 g a day. It's pretty simple. I exercised a minimum of 30 mins a day, 4 days a week. I lost 50 lbs in 4-5 months. I kept it off for about 6 years.

  Stay clear of the cabbage soup diet (yuck). I have heard good things about weight watchers, too. Also, my husband went on slimfast (so did I, but with no luck) and he lost about 20 lbs over a 6 month period. It was slow but he has kept it off for several years now.

  scientisits have all right to disregard religious believes. science is based on facts and logic whereas religions are based on myth, lies and faith. I concur. Did I say anything contrary to that? Am I speaking a different language here or something? Maybe it's that darn lisp...Sadie
